TORREY PEOPLE

hey torrey people from biola, i was wondering about what the structure/expectations of this program is.  i know about the kinda of group set up...thing...but what about the reading? is it required? (although im sure it's highly suggested anyway)  about how many books do you have to read? per week? per month?  thanks, i was just thinking about that, and im becoming more curious about it...thanks!!!!!!!

BOOKS

Hi everone; in an effort to consolidate my effects, I'm trying to get rid of (sadly) some books of mine. I wasn't sure whether I should give them away or keep them or what, but some of them I'll just never read again. So I had the idea of passing them on; once you get tired of them, if you want them, you can pass them on, and so on.  Here's what I have to offer:
-Most of the young adult Left Behind series, from 1-about 30.
-All the Princess Diaries series; there are about 5 or 6 of them.
-2 Lori Wick novels; she's a great Christian romance other.  Both great books.
So if you have an interest in any of these, let me know! If I get more than one request, we can just keep passing them on and I can keep track of who will get them next.  Thanks for your help!

HEY lobby crew!!! and everyone else. lol.

Hey Lobby Crew, and other Fellow Readers:

I'm looking for a book to read this summer for my AP English class next year (senior!!).  I want it to be a good classic book, not a bore, and something that I can understand (not like Wuthering Heights or Shakespeare-I'm sure I could do it, but I'd feel more comfortable reading something else for a class).  So here's the list, let me know what you think!

Adventures of Huck Finn
The Age of Innocence
Anna Karenina
Antigone
The Awakening
Beloved
Cathc-22
Ceremony
The Color Purple
Crime and Punishment
Death of a Salesman
Don Quixote
An Enemy of the People
A Farewell to Arms
Fences
Frankenstein
The Glass Menagerie
The Grapes of Wrath
Great Expectations
Gulliver's Travels
Heart of Darkness
Jane Eyre
The Joy Luck Club
Jude the Obscure
King Lear
Light in August
A Lesson Before Dying
Macbeth
Merchant of Venice
Othello
Mrs.  Dalloway
Native Son
Oedipus Rex
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Our Town
The Plague
The Remains of the Day
Snow Falling On Cedars
The Sound and the Fury
Things Fall Apart

thanks!

How's my summer been, you ask? ...

My summer is going REALLY well! It started out with a kick at Hume Lake Christian Camp, and, it's not like I've been on this spiritual high for God (that comes and goes, I should know), but it's more like this peace that I have from being right with God, and not only that, but from KNOWING Him! It must sound strange or not that great, but once you truly experience it, it's AMAZING!!  So I'm really fueled by that, I've got a mission trip to Mesico coming up along with VBS and God truly only knows what else!  I'm really overwhelmed by everything I have to do (we're starting construction on the remodel of our house in 4 weeks, and with vacations, we have 2 weeks to pack up, but I'm SO SO SO excited because this has been in the works for NINE YEARS!!!!!!)  So there's all I have to do for that, plus I have a list of 222 (and still growing) books that I want to read, about 10 by the end of summer, which will be REALLY hard for me, but I'm really excited about what God will teach me in some of these books! (The Search for Self, Boundaries in Dating, Help! I'm a Student Leader, etc. etc.)  I'm pretty reluctant to start my summer homework.  I haven't even looked at it.  AND I'm in search of a job.  I'm pretty convinced that there are no vocational opportunities left in Elk Grove.  Anywhere.  So that's been a struggle-but it's just another area I need to give up to God and see Him mold into His plan! (If it seems like I'm inundating you with all this "Christianese," I honestly don't mean to.  You'd be amazed at what God is doing in my life and in my friends' lives right now-and what He's already done)  So overall, the summer has been one of the best! You know, I think life's only going to get better.  In fact, I have this feeling like life's about to get REALLY good.  I have 4 classes next year, a heart on fire for God's work, and tons of opportunities.  So that's how my summer's been!

Backpacking

it was awesome! we had to turn around three times on the way there, we started out on the wrong trail and didn't know it for about half a mile, turned around, found the right trail, but started it at the wrong place, making for a 4 mile hike, all adding up to 5 miles in one night when it was supposed to be something like 1.4; but i was deliriously tired for most of it, so i skatted and philosophized and all that jazz, so i hardly knew what was going on. we got to the camp at twelve, so we couldnt really see what the surroundings looked like, so when i woke up, i was AMAZED at how gorgeous everything was! we were in this really green valley with flowers and everything-i felt like we were in ireland or scotland or britain. and the ocean was amazing like always!! we all have to go to the beach somewhere this summer. im kinda of inspired to do my room in ocean colors...
we talked a lot about where the youth group is headed and what needs to change and what we need to do and be as student leaders. we're also going to bring the round table back, and i volunteered to do the first dinner.
on saturday night, when we were all getting to bed after our fireside beach talk, our camp got infested by racoons! i think i have raccoonaphobia....i looked it up, and i dont think there's a real word for it, so i made it up...anyway...
well, i had a great time, and i hope we can go back there next time!
